These Apple Hand Pies are baked to a golden brown, have a flaky crust, and are stuffed with a wonderful and gooey apple pie filling. They are quite simple to make. In less than half an hour, it will be like if you had your very own apple pie baked just for you in your own particular size. Complimentary instructions for the oven as well as the Air Fryer are included!
Ingredients You’ll Need
Pie Crusts –
For this recipe, you will need two pie crusts, either store-bought or homemade, and you have the option of using either. Bear in mind that making apple hand pies with a crust that is of higher quality will result in flakier pies.
Apple Pie Filling –
I used a can of apple pie filling that is one of my favorites, but you can make your own using the recipe I’ve provided here.
Eggs –
In order to produce an egg wash, which serves two purposes (adhering the brown sugar to the pies and ensuring that they bake to a golden brown color), you will need one big egg.
Cane Sugar Brown –
Brown sugar, which can be sprinkled on top of the pies for an additional layer of crunch and sweetness, is required, but its use is entirely discretionary.
Caramel Sauce –
If you want to make these hand pies extra naughty, add a dollop of caramel sauce to each pie. This step is absolutely optional, but apple pies and caramel are a terrific match.
Making Apple Hand Pies
Instructions for the Oven
Start by preheating the oven and then lining your pan with:
First, prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat, and then preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 degrees Celsius).
Roll and divide the dough as follows:
After rolling out the pie dough, use a cookie cutter to cut it into rounds about 3.5 to 4 inches in diameter for both pie crusts.
After that, re-roll all of the leftover pie crust scraps and cut more rounds from the dough using a round cutter. Repeat this step as many times as necessary in order to use up all of the crusts and cut the maximum number of rounds.
After that, arrange half of the pie rounds that have been cut on the baking sheet that has been prepared, leaving about 2 inches of space between each one.
Assemble the hand pies as follows:
Place approximately 2 tablespoons of the apple pie filling on top of each of the pie rounds that are on the baking sheet. If you want to add caramel sauce, drizzle between one and two teaspoons of it over the apple filling.
After that, use the beaten egg to coat the edges of each round, and then stack the remaining rounds that have been cut on top. After that, press the corners together to create a seal that will keep the filling inside, and then use a fork to crimp the edges of the pie rounds.
Cut pie vents:
Using either a sharp knife or a pair of scissors, make a crisscross pattern by cutting two slits on the top of each little apple pie.
Egg wash should be used on each hand pie, and brown sugar should be sprinkled on top of each pie before serving. When baking, blocking the vents allows the steam to escape more easily.
Bake the apple pies in the hand:
Put the baking sheet with the hand pies into the oven and bake it at 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 degrees Celsius) for 25 to 28 minutes, or until the hand pies have turned a golden brown color.
Allow to cool, then serve:
Transfer the apple hand pies to a cooling rack in a careful manner and allow them to cool for a few minutes. They taste wonderful either hot or cold. You can serve this with vanilla ice cream or additional caramel sauce on the side.
Instructions for an Air Fryer
Prepare the Air Fryer as Follows:
Prepare your air fryer by preheating it to 380 degrees Fahrenheit.
Bake the apple pies in the hand:
Put as many of the hand pies as you can into the basket of the air fryer, but make sure to leave at least an inch of space between each one. Fry in the air for five minutes, or until the food is golden brown.
How to Keep Leftovers Safe
Apple hand pies that have been baked can be stored at room temperature for up to three days if they are lightly covered with plastic wrap or aluminum foil.
Additionally, you may keep them in the refrigerator for up to an additional two or three days.
Hand pies can be frozen for up to four months if they are individually wrapped in plastic wrap, placed in an airtight container, and then placed inside a freezer bag that has been sealed.
The apple hand pies should be defrosted in the refrigerator overnight before being re-heated in the oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius) for approximately ten minutes, or until they are warm.
